The 3rd annual Bill Johnson Vertical Challenge for Brain Injury Awareness will be held at Cranmore Mountain Resort on January 28, 2006. Form a team of family, friends or co-workers and see how many runs you can make throughout the day. This event is for skiers of all levels – families are welcome! Prizes will be awarded to the team racking up the most vertical (1200 feet per run), the team collecting the most money ($350 minimum), the team identifying the most checkpoints, as well as a randomly drawn grand prize. A lunch, après ski and plenty of gifts are provided for each skier. Check back often for more information as the date draws closer!
Starting this year, there is a new incentive for participants to raise more pledge money. For every extra $100 raised in pledges that a team raises over the $350 minimum pledge fee, we will start that team off with an extra 100 vertical feet to their tally sheet! For example, for a team that brings in $550 in pledges, we will add an extra 200 vertical feet to the final tally.
The Eastern Inns will give a special rate to BJVC participants. Their reservation number is (603) 356-5447 and their website is www.easterninns.com.

THE END:

The Third Annual Bill Johnson Vertical Challenge for Brain Injury Awareness was held January 28, 2006 at Cranmore Mountain Resort. What a day we had! 84 racers participated in the event under blue skis and unbelievably warm weather. Even Bill could not complain about the cold! This year’s event boasted a total of over $21,500 raised!
This year’s event had a different twist. In addition to accumulating vertical the old fashioned way, individuals could also purchase vertical! The extra funds that were raised through this new incentive will be a great help in directly supporting families and survivors of brain injury in New Hampshire. The team that received the most vertical with a combination of skiing and purchase was lead by Peter Savas, President and CEO of Boston Life Sciences (our event sponsor). He graciously donated back the prize and Awesome Possums received this award. The YOUNG men’s total of skiing and purchase of runs was 126. That’s 151,200 vertical feet. Nice job guys!!
MPZ Landscaping/Team Pace brought in the most donations totaling $1280. Larry Hanlon of Full Tilt collected $1240, on his own! Nice job folks! Full Tilt was also the grand prize winner of 4 Unlimited Threedom Passes donated by Cranmore Mountain Resort.
We offer special thanks to our major sponsors, Boston Life Sciences, Inc., and Cranmore Mountain Resort for their amazing support this year. We would also like to thank our supporting sponsors: North Country Independent Living, WPKQ 103.7, Capitol Distributors/Bass Ale, Jeff Woods Construction, Abramson, Brown and Dugan, MPZ Landscaping and Wendy’s International.
We offer special thanks to all our volunteers as well as the North Country community for their participation in this wonderful event. Finally, we thank Stan and Dan’s Sports for being part of this event since it’s inception.
We hope that everyone had a great time. Check out the pictures and check back often for more information regarding next year’s Challenge!
