VERTICAL CHALLENGE 2008

RETURN

THE BEGINNING:

Welcome skiers to the 5th Annual Vertical Challenge for Brain Injury Awareness on January 26, 2008.  Past participants will notice the new name….and new location…Bretton Woods Ski Resort!  We would first like to thank Cranmore Mountain Resort for 4 years of support to the event.  We will miss you!  We would also like to thank Bill Johnson, who without his support and attending the event would have make getting the Challenge up and running so much more difficult.  We are totally indebted to you Bill!

Now for the new changes….we will be at Bretton Woods Resort this year.  The event will be run the same with teams of 4 competing to complete the most vertical that day.  Prizes will be awarded for the most vertical, most money raised, check points and once again the grand prize will be a random drawing….and it will be kept as a surprise this year!!

Last year there was fierce competition with Holderness School in honor of Charlie Gaylord Class of 2001 leading the way!  Will they be able to keep their title or will the Brown’s Bombees or Wussy Pussy Cats de-thrown them?  Or will a new, unknown team just run off with it all?

This years funding will target families and individuals who have served in the military and are living with a brain injury.  Please come out and support our service men and women!

Forms for teams and sponsors are available on line.  See you at Bretton Woods on January 26th!

THE END:

The 5th Annual Vertical Challenge for Brain Injury Awareness was a great success.  This year’s event was held at Bretton Woods Resort on January 26, 2008.  Twenty teams participated with 80 racers taking to the mountain.  The event raised over $23,000 to support our service men and women living with a brain injury or stroke.

Teams were very active before the event raising money.  Three teams broke the $1,000 mark with two of these teams bringing in over $2,000!  Pace Team brought in $1,431 with Valerie’s Valor bring in $2,065 and the Ski Gulls coming in with a grand total of $2,2077!  The Ski Gulls were also the winners of two lift tickets each to Bretton Woods.   Nice job by all teams.

Each team headed out to the slopes to spend the day racking up as much vertical as possible.  Alseres #1 came in third with 98 runs, Usta Bees come in second with 97 runs and the big winner was Alseres #8 with a total of 128 runs!  Alseres #8 were also winners of two lift tickets each to Bretton Woods.

Teams were then rewarded after a hard day of skiing with a pasta lunch and many raffle prizes.  The grand prize of a weekend at Bretton Woods with either skiing or golf, donated by Bretton Woods, was won by Alexis Correia.

Next years event will again be held at Bretton Woods Resort on January 24, 2009.  Hope to see you there!!
